Application for the 2025/2026 Life Lessons Scholarship Program is open to U.S. students who legal residents and have experience difficulties to continue their education when a parent dies, leaving little or no life insurance in the United States or Puerto Rico. This scholarship is sponsored by Life Happens to provide financial assistance to applicants who seek help to further their education at an accredited college or university. This is a competitive scholarship with a limited number of award given to qualified applicants of the 2025/2026 Life Lessons Scholarship Program.

2025/2026 Life Lessons Scholarship Program Eligibility Criteria
The following requirements must be met by the applicants in order to be eligible for the 2025/2026 Life Lessons Scholarship Program:
- The scholarship application is open to U.S. students who are legal residents in Puerto Rico and the United States.
- The age requirements for applicants applying for the scholarship is between 17 and 24 years of age.
- Applicants who are under the age of 18 years when applying for the scholarship will need their legal guardian’s or parent’s permission.
- Applicants must be planning attend or enrolled into an accredited college or university or trade school to study an undergraduate or graduate degree program in the U.S. or Puerto Rico in Fall semester.
- Applicants will be required to demonstrate their experience of the death of a parent or legal guardian.
- Applicants must not be an employees or household members employed by the Life and Health Insurance Foundation or its affiliates.
Application process
In order to be eligible for the 2025/2026 Life Lessons Scholarship Program, applicants must follow these steps:
- Applicants must go through the scholarship program rules before applying for the scholarship.
- Applicants can apply for the scholarship through the online application provided here.
- Applicants must provide all the required documents and materials that are needed for the scholarship.
- Applicants must write an essay of 500 words or 3-minute video discussing how the death of their parent or guardian affected their lives financially and emotionally including how the loss of their parent or guardian impacted their college plans, how the lack of adequate life insurance coverage or no coverage at all impacted their family’s financial situation, and indicate what you have done to provide for yourself and or other family members because of financial challenges their family has faced.
