Application for the 2025/2026 Port Waratah Coal Services Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship is open to interested undergraduate student who wish to continue their study at the University of Newcastle. The scholarship is sponsored by Port Waratah Coal Service Ltd to provide support for qualified undergraduate student. This is a competitive scholarship with a value of $21,000 and a limited number of award given to qualified applicants in their 1st year of study at the University of Newcastle.

2025/2026 Port Waratah Coal Services Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship Qualification

The following requirements must be met by the applicants in order to be eligible for the 2025/2026 Port Waratah Coal Services Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship: 

  • Applicants must enroll for full-time at the University of Newcastle in 1st year of any Bachelor of Engineering program.
  • Applicants must have an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent of 75 or higher. 
  • Applicants must be permanent residents of New Zealand or Australia or a citizen of Australia.
  • Applicants must not hold any Australian undergraduate degree program. 
  • Applicants that experience any of the following are eligible to apply for the scholarship such as Out-of-Home care or Refugee, First Nations Person attributes or living in Australia remotely, experiencing abuse, long term disability or medical conditions, or sole parent or career responsibilities.
  • Applicant must be experiencing financial hardship and have previously not received this scholarship. 

Scholarship Benefits

  • $7000 per year benefit.
  • $21000 for 3 years benefits provided the eligibility is maintained.

2025/2026 Port Waratah Coal Services Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship Application process

In order to be eligible for the 2025/2026 Port Waratah Coal Services Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship: 

  • Applicants must submit all necessary documents in a PDF file maximum of 3 and must be smaller than 5 MB at the application portal. 
  • During the registration on the application portal, all the required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’. 
  • A 1 A4 page personal statement detailing your academic achievements, how the scholarship can help, career aspiration in your area of study. 
  • Applicants will be required to outline their interest for future opportunities with this donor or industry partner as a free text question in the application.
  • On the individual application responses, applicants may be required to provide documents on their personal circumstances and educational challenges. 
  • Applicants from the UON students are not required to submit transcripts also CV or portfolio, academic competitions, participating in internships or travel programs and awards should be demonstrated as your academic achievements on 3 documents. 
  • Applicant must show their commitment to leadership within their community such as articles or publication, club membership or leadership panel, community activities and proof of volunteering, and reference.
